As you can see, lots of room for everyone!
Here is what you absolutely MUST have if you wish to enter:
1. Access to a fairly good computer microphone
2. You must own at least the Bair translation of the Leroux novel. (And having Wolf would not hurt either.)
3. Passable voice acting skills.
4. Clear, understandable pronunciation of English
If Scorpion and I feel you do a good enough job at one role, and we feel you have enough versatility with your voice, we will most certainly consider giving more than one role to one person. (That is, should it please you.)
Now, we know how few and far between male phans are, so it will be pretty much first come first serve with most of the parts as long as your voice skills pass our very loose requirements.
The only parts we will be picky with are:
Erik, Raoul, The Persian, and most importantly, the narrator. For those, we are looking for very strong and specific voice types.
The Persian must, of course, be able to do a Persian accent. Just a hint of one is enough, nothing too distracting.
Raoul must fit the description of being 21 but appearing 18, including his sound.
Erik... well... you know We'll take the most Erik-ish voice we can find
WOMEN: We are looking for an older voice for Mama Valerius. Or if you are young, but can do an old lady's voice, we'll take you too.
now, for the most important part, THE NARRATOR. The voice of Leroux. We need a voice that is entirely distinct form all the other voices and will be able to be recognized amongst all the rest. Can you make your voice unique? We want you! Even if it's something as simple as a British accent among a cast of Americas... or visa versa. As long as it's unique. We might even have to wait until we have the rest of the cast settled before choosing the narrator just to make sure it suits the project as a whole.
Yes, we will be reading and recording the ENTIRE book. Except for a few of the "he said" "she said" parts. Or if the narrator says a character sighs or moans or laughs, the character will, instead, simply sigh or moan or laugh. The recording process will be similar to how the PFN ALW cast recording is done with each character sending in their part and Scorpion and I doing the mixing. (We're also, of course, always looking for assistance with the mixing and layering process as well as background music). Characters will also be expected to "rehearse" together in voice chartrooms before sending in their final recordings. We will go through the book in groups chapter by chapter.
AUDITIONING:
Now we know everyone will probably want to try for Erik or Raoul or the other larger parts, but there are a LOT of parts that need to be filled, and remember, if you can handle it, we're willing to let you have more than one if it's required.
Record yourself saying a few of the characters lines that best exhibit your voice for the characters you choose in an mp3 or wav file and send it to me and I will then send it on to The Scorpion. You can send it to me over AIM or MSN or e-mail it, or whatever is most convenient. Make sure in the sound file, before you begin your lines, state who you are and then what character your are reading for. The more characters you try, the better.
If you want to try for Erik, Raoul, the Persian, or the Narrator, you must also record lines for at least two other characters as well.
In instances where one character is telling a story where another character speaks (such as Christine's story on the roof, or the Persian's narrative) the voices of the characters they are speaking of will be saying their own lines, not the respective narrators.
Specific lines to record for certain characters:
Erik: The dying of love speech, AND the unmasking. Two extremes.
Raoul: Again, two extremes. Something where he's being young and innocent and something where he's all riled up. You decide.
The Narrator: Something with basic, dry narration (make it interesting!) and something dramatic (like the chandelier crash or Carlotta's croaking)
If there are females who can do believable men's voices, we will gladly accept you as well.
So Spread the word everyone! Tell your friends! Post on other Phantom boards about it! The more people the better.
