I don't think a good published sequel exists... _________________ "Some luck lies in not getting what you thought you wanted but getting what you have, which once you have it you may be smart enough to see is what you would have wanted had you known." -- Garrison Keillor |

Which should be incentive, all the more reason, for us to write one! There's plenty of brilliant ff.net material, and publishing, once you've found an editor, is possible.
Authors abound on the net, and I don't see any real reason why we haven't got a good sequel yet - published, I mean, we have plenty of excellent ones available now as text online - as we have everything we need, technically. Mocking the existing one is all well and good, but really doing something about it... Showing that you have the right to mock it by doing better - that would truly set things right. In my opinion, of course. _________________ Gender? Male. Hair? Auburn. Eyes? Light brown. File for missing persons, please. Last seen in Paris, France. Special identifying characteristics? Foxy. I think Fraternite should be the "good published sequel". _________________

Spork! This is a suicide mission! Don't do it! Turn back, Sporky, turn back while you still can! There are other, more expendible people in the universe to test this cruel and unusual method of torture upon. _________________

I agree. Gondolier's was my favorite ff.net read ever... I would recommend it to any EC shipper. And every, come to think. Truly brilliant, and I'm surprised it isn't published as of yet. _________________ Gender? Male. Hair? Auburn. Eyes? Light brown. File for missing persons, please. Last seen in Paris, France. Tis not a rumour my dear FAB but the God awful truth.
I'm hoping there's some sort of calamity to erase all talk, tiddle and ALW scores.

Well, a lot of phans liked my "Letters to Erik" which has just recently come out as a published work in paperback. Give it a shot; maybe that'll fill the bill. Even Tango1 liked it. It's a Leroux-purist book, though -- no ALW influences. Details in my sig.
Anyway, I've read Phantom of Manhattan, and I have to say it wasn't *quite* as bad as I had been led to believe. Almost, but not quite. I didn't like the "money is my god" thing, and I really didn't like Erik's new assistant, but some of the rest of it I could kinda maybe see happening in a twisted way. If I squint.
I HATED the alternative history that Forsyth gave to Leroux and his work! Mme Giry as the ballet-mistress? Puh-lease! Spare me. The idea of "Leroux made mistakes" was so repugnant to me that I almost couldn't finish the book.
On the other hand, I did rather like how it ended. Ever-so-slightly Hamlet-esque, only with the villain living through the final scene.
So I'd recommend it for any phan to read, just to be able to say they've read it. Go into it expecting it to be total crap and utter tripe, and you may find yourself pleasantly surprised by one or two aspects of it. And that's all. _________________ AKA "Clever Lass" from FFN: not because I'm all that clever, but because I aspire to be. Check out my newly published Phantom novel at Outskirts Press. |
